Six of Successful Living:

Honing Your Health: Worship or Waist??

One of the biggest challenges we all face in life is finding and maintaining a balance in areas of life. There is the struggle of time: As Pastor should I spend eighty hours a week at the Church or as Husband and Daddy should I spend every evening and afternoon home with my son and wife? Move to either extreme - and you are out of balance. Even in areas of Scripture, this is true - Jesus Christ found the delicate balance of grace and law in dealing with people - and we should to.

So, balance is also necessary when we talk about our physical bodies. If we pay too much attention to them, it is almost as if we are worship the creation rather than the Creator. However, if we do not pay any attention to them, then quite honestly we are not good stewards of what God has given us.

Are You Getting Enough Rest? Are You Getting Too Must Rest?

Everyone needs rest. God commanded us to have the Sabbath for rest. If we do not rest, we become fatigued in our mind, body and spirit - every area of our life suffers. However, on the other hand too must rest is simple laziness. Laziness leads to poverty. "How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? {10} A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-- {11} and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man." (Proverbs 6:9-11 NIV)

Are You Eating Enough Food? Are You Eating Too Much Food?

Food is the fuel that your body relies on to function. If you put in junky, poor food or no foods at all, do not expect optimum performance. You will end up suffering physical meltdown. The other side of the coin is that you should not eat like a pig and expect to remain healthy. No Food, bad food or too much food all lead to major problems in life. Find the balance! Do not be a heavy drinker or stuff yourself with food. It will make you feel drowsy and you will end up poor with only rags to wear." Proverbs 23:21-21

Do Not Forget - What is Inside is More Important - But Do Not Forget the Outside!

Today it seems that many people worship their bodies. They are pampered, toned and bronzed on the outside, but often empty, hollow and hurting on the inside. The Bible says that exercise does profit - it is good for you. However, God is more concerned with the eternal than He is what a body looks like. Those who are successful in life have found the balance between keeping both physically fit and spiritually fit. Have you? "Exercise is good for your body, but religion helps you in every way. It promises life now and forever." 1 Timothy 4:8-9
